My Son has flourished both academically and socially as a kindergarten and elementary school student at Growing Light. In kindergarten he used to run to the front door of the school shouting “I love kindergarten!” Now, as a second grader, he wants to make it through the year without missing one day! As parents we value that the school provides a safe and nurturing environment, where kindness and respect are taught as well as math, science, language and the arts.

The classroom is beautiful, and rich with interesting learning materials. The intimate, mixed 1st – 3rd grade classroom creates a rare environment of co-operation, understanding and learning between the age groups; where younger students look up to older students to see what they are doing, and older students can take on helpful roles with younger students. All can be seen busy with quiet, focused intensity during work periods, doing really interesting and engaging projects; studying subjects such as mythology, constellations, the big bang… My son has never once expressed boredom or resistance to any activity at school. He has the freedom to switch between his favorite subject, math; to his second favorite activity, crocheting washcloths!

Walking into Rebecca’s elementary classroom I always experience a sence of, — Ahhh. THIS is what school should be.
